The Hummingbird Bakery

Although they are more famous for catering to the stars, Tarek Malouf and the Hummingbird Bakers have now produced a range of different cookbooks.  Covering their famous cupcakes to American-inspired pies, these are fool-hardy and delicious desserts to please family and friends alike.

The Hummingbird Bakery Cupcakes and Muffins

My appreciation of the Hummingbird bakery started when I was given this for Christmas last year.  Featuring creative, reliable and very tasty recipes, it was a great place to start if you only want to make cupcakes or muffins.  For those seeking tips on presentation it is worth noting that while all the desserts are delicious the suggestions for decorations are generally of secondary importance, so be prepared to draw on your own creativity when using these books.

The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook

Having tried out a few of the different cupcakes, I felt like trying a new kind of dessert.  This beautifully presented book features many of the same recipes but also has separate sections for pies, brownies, cakes and cookies.  Because of the repetition, I would recommend buying this book rather than the shorter one, unless you are really only interested in the smaller cakes.  The desserts are American-inspired but made with English ingredients, and as with the other book the recipes work really well with tasty results.

The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days: Recipes to make every day special

Covered in bright pink and chocolate, this went straight on my birthday list.  It is full of new cupcake recipes,  plus loaf cakes, sweet bars, layers cakes and the new top treats among celebrities, whoopie pies.  So far I have made the gingerbread cupcakes, which tasted suitably of Christmas, and the vanilla cupcakes, which were deemed 'the best cupcakes we've had so far' by Mum.  I look forward to filling my days with cake; I have my hungry eye on Tiramisu cupcakes, so watch this space.
